Traveling to Bar Harbor

Getting to Mt. Desert Island

By Air

The nearest airport to Bar Harbor is the Bar Harbor Airport (BHB), however very few commerical flights come through BHB.

More people fly in and out of Bangor International Airport (BGR) for directions from BGR follow this link: Bangor to Bar Habor.   The Bangor Airport is about an hour and a half from Bar Harbor unless there is bad traffic along the way (which there can be during the summer months).

The Portland Airport (PWM) is the largest in Maine and offers the most flight options.  PWM is a very driveable three and a half hours from Bar Harbor (again not including traffic).  Flights through Portland tend to be a bit cheaper than BGR or BHB and flying though Portland allows you to see Portland Maine, and Free Port along the way.  For directions from Portland follow this link: Portland to Bar Harbor

 By Car

 By Sea

Perhaps the best way to arrive in Bar Harbor is to come by sea.  Many Cruises stop in Bar Harbor.  In addition there is ferry service from Nova Scotia and Winter Harbor.
