Southwest Harbor is a village on Mount Desert Island. The population of Southwest is about 2,000 people. It is about an hour drive to the quite side of the island where Southwest Harbor is located. It is directly across Somes Sound from Northeast Harbor.
It is often called the ‘quite side’ of the island, because it receives fewer visitors than Bar Harbor, which makes it perfect for people that like a slower paced vacation. Southwest Harbor has many gift shops ,eateries and galleries. You can also access the offshore islands including Cranberry Island from here as well |
