Cruise Foundation Supports Maine Environmental Research Programs PDF Print E-mail
The Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation (CICF) is pleased to announce their continued partnership with the Mount Desert Island Water Quality Coalition.
he donation was made in conjunction with an environmental seminar being held aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines’ Explorer of the Seas, which made its maiden call to Bar Harbor earlier this month. The seminar outlined the significant strides made by the cruise industry to protect and preserve the marine ecosystems served by the industry.

“CICF takes special pride in its partnerships with organizations which work to protect and restore the marine environment,” said Jim Border, Chairman, Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation. “The Mount Desert Island Water Quality Coalition has a tradition of excellence in this regard, and the cruise industry is honored to have a part in guaranteeing their continued success.”

In addition, CICF also presented a $10,000 grant to the West Eden Village Improvement Society (VIS) chairman Joy Kelly. This grant is designated to fund the construction of a new playground for the children of Bar Harbor.

“The West Eden Village Improvement Society is so grateful for the generous contribution that CICF gave us for the creation of this important community resource,” said Joy Kelly, Chairman of the Playgrounds Committee for VIS.

The cruise industry spent nearly $24 million in Maine in 2006 as the state’s popularity among cruisers continued to increase. Maine ports hosted nearly 180 cruise ship visits that accounted for nearly 147,000 passenger visit days.
