What better way to shake off those winter blahs than to enjoy an evening of jazz and bossa nova favorites when Wave returns to the area this winter.
Sweet, sultry and kicked-back , this popular trio continues to delight audiences all over Maine with some of the most memorable songs of the 20th century. Catch Wave featuring Mary Spence on vocals, Muk Dodge on guitar and Bruce Cassaday on trumpet on Wednesday February 6 and March 5 at Sips Restaurant in Southwest Harbor and also on Saturday February 23, March 22 and April 19 from 5:30 - 7:30pm at the Riverside Cafe in Ellsworth. ABOUT WAVE
For several years now, Wave has been making a splash on the local music scene with their kicked back style of jazz and bossa nova favorites.
Originally formed by vocalist Mary Spence and guitarist Muk Dodge, Wave has enjoyed playing to audiences at Bar Harbor's annual Jazz Festival, Schoodic Arts' Last Friday Coffeehouse and in their regular haunts of Eastern Maine's restaurants, lounges and cafes.
ABOUT MARY SPENCE
Before retreating to Downeast Maine, vocalist Mary Spence has worked in both the U.K. and U.S. While in the London and Oxford areas, she performed with a number of bands with genres as diverse as rockabilly, blues, swing and jazz. She also worked as a vocalist in the Boston area performing jazz and Latin styles with area circuit musicians.
When not performing she enjoys entertaining herself and friends with a variety of instruments including guitar, piano and flute. Spence is also a copywriter and consultant and a freelance writer. Her work has appeared in the Ellsworth American and Bangor Daily News
ABOUT MUK DODGE
For over thirty years, Muk Dodge has performed with a number of area musicians and has been influenced by a variety of styles from folk to blues and jazz to Latin, as well as the world music styles of flamenco, gypsy and Middle Eastern music.
Dodge plays a Ramirez classical guitar and teaches both classical guitar and theory to area students. Dodge also worked as a commercial fisherman and still enjoys many outdoor pursuits like backwoods camping and sea kayaking in and around his seaside home.
ABOUT BRUCE CASSADAY
Trumpeter Bruce Cassaday will be performing with Wave at the Riverside Cafe. Cassaday who also plays coronet and other brass, has been performing regularly with Wave for over a year now.
Cassaday, who is also an educator and commercial photographer can be found performing regularly with Joyful Jazz in and around the Ellsworth area.
